Raid FAQ
From OmniaWiki
These are a few of the frequently asked questions when people are in our Karazhan raids.
Q: OMG I missed teh tabel new one plox!!!
A: Ritual of refreshment along with ritual of souls is on a rather long cooldown, which is why you should always keep an eye out and try to take some when it appears. Don't hog the water though, if you have 4 stacks and someone didn't get any be a good sport and trade them a stack or two, by the time you run out the cooldown will be up again most likely.
Q: I've heard I'm supposed to be in a channel or something, wtf?
A: Many of the classes have created their own channels to help co-ordinate what each member of the class is doing. You can join the appropriate channel by doing "/join ". The following are the channelnames so far (please let me know if more are created or updated):
- omniahealers - healers, i.e. Priests, Druids, Paladins
- omniatanks - tanks, i.e. warriors, protection paladins, feral druids
- omniaranged - all ranged classes
Class specific:
- omnialocks - warlocks
- omniarogues - rogues
- omniahunters - hunters
- omniamages - mages
Q: I've managed to install raidassist but I've no clue about how to set it up, help?!
A: Raidassist is mostly self-explanatory and has nice tooltips over each of the options. Sometime when you're not raiding, have a look through the options and tick the ones that are appropriate to you. At some point I shall write a full guide to using raid assist, or maybe I'll just let this post stand as a testiment to my lazyness.
Q: The raid leader is ninja-ing all sucky green items, he must be rich by now, I want some!
A: Fortunately he's not ninjaing them, after every raid he sends the useful items on to the guild bank, and sells the useless stuff either on the auction house or to a vendor. The money also goes to the guild bank.
Q: I need to go afk for 5 minutes to water my plants/kick my dog/construct a stadium etc. Is that ok?
A: Yes of course it's ok, believe it or not we all do have real lives too, and things in real life sometimes distract us from the important stuff like WoW. However, use your common sense. Try to go afk right after a boss when we are looting (unless you're interested in any of the loot and ALWAYS let the raidleader know you're afk, just typing brb in raidchat isn't good enough, whisper the raidleader and anyone else that shares your responsibility if it's during trash (Such as CC, healing, tanking etc) to ask them to fill in for you.
Q: Help help, my pet orangutan threw a cabbage at my speaker and it fell and knocked my beer on my cat who bit through my network cable in a state of shock!
A: Don't fear, just because you got disconnected doesn't mean you'll get kicked from the raid. Alot of things can go wrong with computers/internet connections etc. and we're all understanding people. If you get disconnected, try and sort it out and at least get back on teamspeak to let us know what happened, we'll save your spot if we know you're coming back. If you know some other way to contact raid members, i.e. phone or messenger or something then feel free to let us know that way too. If you are disconnected with no explanation for longer than 15 minutes, you'll be kicked from the raid and we'll try and find a replacement.
Q: Wait wait, I've only got 97.3562% mana/ I'm a paladin and I'm buffing the last 2 people/I'm taking a bite of my peanut butter and banana sandwich, please don't attack yet!
A: It doesn't take every single member of the raid to be 100% ready to fight most of the stuff in a raid group, if we waited all the time we'd get through it much more slowly, and there'd be much less phat loot for everyone. If you need to continue drinking/buffing/eating for the first 10 seconds of a fight, feel free to do so, we won't think you're lazy for doing so! It's up to the raid leader and main tank to make that decision based on the raid's overall status.
Q: All my items are red so I'll just hearthstone and repair and you guys can summon me back right?
A: In or close to most raid instances there are repair vendors, we also sometimes bring a repairbot, and if the raidleader tells you to use this then use it. Saying 5 minutes later that your gear is red is not something people have a lot of patience with. Try to be reasonable aswell, repair everytime we run in after a wipe, and if you're low but we are ressing you're best off still running in and repairing. Make sure you show up for all raids fully repaired.
Q: Do I need to bring my packed lunch and a teddy bear?
A: You actually need very little, although you wont gain nearly as much vendor loot as you do in 5man instances, so having bags relatively full is not much of a problem. If you need reagents to do your buffs, bring lots and lots and lots (remember, after every wipe there's a rebuff, and you may end up doing multiple groups). Hunters wishing to use their pets will need food and everyone should have some potions for emergencies! Bring plenty of heavy netherweave bandages too. Its also advisable to bring along a reasonable supply of buff potions and mana/heath potions to help increase our chances in every way.
Q: OMG, heal me plswwwwwwwww
A: Our healers are really really good, you don't need to remind them to heal you. However, they may be busy keeping more important people alive like our tank(s). Remember, if you die, one person has to be ressed. If our tank dies, everyone dies, and everyone has to get ressed. This is why 375 first aid is so important, if you need a heal, your first thought should be to first aid yourself.
Q: Help help help, everyone's dead but me, but if I run as fast I can towards the entrance I might just survive!
A: There is a chance you'll survive, yes. There's also the chance that during the time you're running away that our soulstoned person's release timer will run out and we'll all have to run. You wouldn't want that on your conscience would you? ;) If it's a wipe, it's a wipe, some things are just not possible and if we pull more than one pack then it's pretty obvious alot of the time that we wont survive. Don't just decide it's a wipe yourself however, but if the raidleader says it's a wipe don't try to run away, go up and melee one of the mobs and hope he hits you quickly. Also try to die close to the group, it makes it a lot easier to res people.
Q: I just reached level 80 and I really want to raid, can I come plx?
A: No. We have gear requirements for all of our instances and chances are that as someone who just reached level 80 you won't have the gear required to raid. This isn't very hard to achieve though, doing 10 mans and heroics for badges will get you some great gear, craftables & even pvping is great for some classes.
Q: What do you mean 'Take the skull' ? Take it where ? The pub ? Out to dinner ? What ?!
A: At some points multiple targets need assigning to multiple people i.e. Moroe's adds and the ballroom packs in KZ. The easiest way to ensure everybody gets their own, seperate targets is for the targets to get marked with an icon (such as skull, moon, star, etc) which you then target.
Q: Okay, so the raid starts at 20.30, that means I start logging in at 20.28 right?
A: Nope. Don't forget the time it takes you to buy reagents, travel (not to mention go to the toilet beforehand, those gryphons don't stop for weewee breaks), repair and not to mention queue for the server before you're ready. Basically, we'd like to start killing stuff at the time the raid starts, so make sure you're not the one wasting everyone elses time. If you are not online at 20 past and you have not notified anyone you have forfeited your spot in the raid and should expect to be replaced. You will not receive a wildcard for missing invites.
Q: I said something in raid chat, but noone replied, you all noticed right?
A: Not necessarily, don't expect anyone to read everything you write in raid chat, it scrolls very fast with people all typing and it's hard to keep track of, especially when you're in 4 whispered conversations, a class channel, guild chat and officer chat at the same time. Basically, if you want an important message to get across, use teamspeak or a whisper and make sure you get a reply before assuming someone read it!
Q: OMG that's a hunter weapon!
A: As a guild we have a very open-minded attitude on people's playstyles and the type of equipment they want to collect, therefore we have a stringent rule that says "DKP is King". If you have the dkp for an item, you can take it. However, certain items do suit certain classes better than others and guildies will always be willing to give you advice on whether something suits your class or not. If you're unsure whether an item is good for you then ask your class leader.
Having said that common sense applies and tank items go to tanks, DPS items go to DPSers and healing items go to healers unless no tank/healer/DPSer wants them. If you want an item for your offspec, then you can whisper the raidleader.
